Your first day with Bloomingo
Bloomingo opens on today’s board, ready to use. There is nothing to set up first. In about five minutes you can write down your tasks, put a note beside them and see your day.
Open Bloomingo
Section titled “Open Bloomingo”Today’s board fills the window. Its date is at the top left, and a list called My tasks sits under it. The rest of the board is open space for anything else.
Around the board you’ll find:
- the sidebar on the left, with this month’s calendar at the bottom;
- the toolbox at the bottom of the board, for adding things;
- the timeline on the right, with the day’s hours, when the window is wide enough.
The first time, a hint sits above the toolbox: “Add things from the toolbox. Open any day from the calendar.” It goes away for good when you choose its ×, or once you add something with the toolbox or a double-click.

Write down today’s tasks
Section titled “Write down today’s tasks”While today is empty, a card in the middle of the board asks “What’s on your mind today?”. Its field is ready, so you can start typing.
- Type one thing you want to do today.
- Press ↵Enter. The task goes to the end of My tasks, and the field empties for the next one.
- Keep going until everything for today is down.
- Press EscEsc, or click the board, to put the card away.
Once you put the card away, it stays away for the rest of the day.
To add a task later, choose Add a task at the bottom of My tasks, or press NN. Type the task, then press ↵Enter to start the next one. Press EscEsc when you’re done.
Tick a task off
Section titled “Tick a task off”Click the checkbox before a task to mark it done. Its words are struck through, and it stays where it is while you work, so the list doesn’t jump. The next time you open the board, done tasks sit below the open ones.
Changed your mind? Click the checkbox again.
The number beside Today in the sidebar is how many of today’s tasks are still open.
Put a note beside your tasks
Section titled “Put a note beside your tasks”A note holds anything longer than a task: a plan, a list of questions, what someone said.
- Double-click any open space on the board. A note appears there.
- Type its title.
- Press ↵Enter to go on into its text.
- Press EscEsc, or click somewhere else, when you’re done.
To write more, double-click the note. It opens in the side panel on the right, and your day stays in view. Press EscEsc, or choose Close, to put the panel away.
You can also choose Add a note in the toolbox, then click where the note should go.
Give a task a time
Section titled “Give a task a time”Drag a task from My tasks onto the timeline, and let go at the hour you want. A block shows it there, and the task keeps its place in My tasks with its time beside it.
To hide the timeline or show it again, press ⌥⌘TCtrl+Alt+T, or use the timeline button at the top right of the window. More in The timeline.

What happens next
Section titled “What happens next”- Everything is saved. Bloomingo saves each change as you make it. There is no save button, and ⌘ZCtrl+Z undoes the last step.
- Thoughts without a day can wait on the braindump, the one board with no date. Press G then BG then B to go there.
- Other days open from the calendar at the bottom of the sidebar, or one at a time with [[ and ]]. A day ahead that you haven’t used yet opens with an empty My tasks. See Day boards.
- On a new day, tasks left unfinished wait in a small tray under the date. For each one you choose Today, Braindump, Pick a day or Let go, and nothing moves until you do. See Yesterday’s unfinished tasks.
