Your data and privacy
Everything you put in Bloomingo is saved on your device, and it all works offline. Nothing you write is sent to us.
Where your library lives
Section titled “Where your library lives”Bloomingo keeps your boards, notes, tasks, files and settings in one folder on your device: your library. Bloomingo makes it the first time it opens.
| On | The folder |
|---|---|
| Mac | ~/Library/Application Support/app.bloomingo |
| Windows | C:\Users\your name\AppData\Local\app.bloomingo |
To open it on a Mac, choose Go › Go to Folder… in Finder and paste the path. On Windows, type
%LOCALAPPDATA%\app.bloomingo in File Explorer’s address bar.
Inside it, each as it’s needed, you’ll find:
- library.db: every board, note, task and setting, in one file. Two small files that go with it may sit beside it.
- files, the pictures and PDFs you add, under names Bloomingo gives them. To get one out under its own name, use Save a copy on the Files page.
- backups, copies of the library from before an update changed it (below).
- logs, the diagnostics log (below).
It works offline
Section titled “It works offline”Everything opens and saves without the internet. Every change is saved on your device as you make it, so there is no save button. When you quit or close a window, Bloomingo finishes saving first.
Search runs on your device too. Its index lives in your library, and nothing you search for leaves the device.
Backups before an update
Section titled “Backups before an update”Sometimes a new version of Bloomingo changes how the library is stored. Before it does, Bloomingo copies the whole library into the backups folder, and checks the library after the change. It keeps the newest three copies.
These copies are there to keep your work safe through an update. They are not a history you can browse. For a copy of your own, use Export everything in Settings: notes as Markdown, files as they are and boards as JSON, in a folder you choose. See Export and import.
What leaves your device
Section titled “What leaves your device”Very little, and nothing you write.
- No tracking. Bloomingo shows no ads, and it has no analytics or tracking of what you write.
- Web links. When you put a web link on a board, Bloomingo asks that website for the page’s title and picture. Only the link’s address is sent. Once read, the preview is kept on your device and shows offline.
- Opening a web link opens it in your browser.
- Diagnostic info. If something goes wrong, Bloomingo writes a short line in its log on your device. It notes what failed and which versions ran, never anything you wrote, a file’s name or a folder’s path. The log keeps at most two small files, and the oldest lines go as new ones come.
The log reaches us only if you send it. In Settings › About, Copy diagnostic info puts Bloomingo’s version, your system’s and the newest lines of the log on your clipboard. You paste it into an email yourself. See When something goes wrong.
Sync, later
Section titled “Sync, later”Sync isn’t built yet. Sync between your devices will be end-to-end encrypted.
Until then, your boards are only on the device you use, so export them to keep a copy. Export and Import can also move them to another computer.
For how Bloomingo keeps your boards private, and how sync is designed, read the security page. The privacy policy, a draft for now, says what the website keeps if you join the waitlist.
