Sticky notes on a board
A sticky note is a coloured square for a short thought. Put one down, type, and carry on. When a thought grows, turn the sticky into a note.
Add a sticky note
Section titled “Add a sticky note”- Click Sticky note in the toolbox, or press SS. The sticky bar rises above the toolbox with its colours.
- Choose a colour, if you want a different one.
- Click the board where the sticky should go, and type.
After one sticky, the tool goes back to Select. Other ways to add one:
- Drag the Sticky note button onto the board. The sticky lands where you let go, ready to type.
- Add more, then Sticky note, turns on the Sticky tool too.
- Double-click an empty part of the board, if Double-click on a board adds is set to A sticky note in Settings.
The Weekly review, Project plan and Study session templates start with sticky notes too. See Adding things.
Choose its colour
Section titled “Choose its colour”
A sticky note always has a colour. There are seven: Gray, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue and Purple.
- For new stickies: choose a colour in the sticky bar while the Sticky tool is on. New stickies use it until you quit Bloomingo. They are yellow at first. A small dot on the toolbox’s Sticky note button shows the colour.
- For a sticky already on the board: select it, click Colour in the actions bar, and choose one. The node menu’s Colour works too. There is no “No colour” for a sticky.
The colours mean nothing to Bloomingo. Use them however helps you.
Type on a sticky note
Section titled “Type on a sticky note”A new sticky is ready to type at once. To type on one later, double-click it. Or select it and press ↵Enter, or click its words.
- ↵Enter starts a new line.
- ⌘↵Ctrl+Enter finishes and starts another sticky beside it.
- EscEsc, or a click somewhere else, finishes.
The words start large. As you write more, they get smaller in two steps so they fit. Past the smallest size, the sticky grows taller.
A sticky with no words goes from the board when you finish. A web address typed on a sticky becomes a link; see Web links to open it.
A sticky never opens in the side panel. A double-click always types on it.
Change its size
Section titled “Change its size”A sticky starts 200 pixels square. Drag a corner to resize it, down to 120 pixels each way. Hold ⇧Shift to keep its proportions. However you size it, it stays tall enough for its words.
Turn it into a note, and back
Section titled “Turn it into a note, and back”Open the node menu: right-click the sticky, or click More in the actions bar.
- Turn into note makes it a note. The first line becomes the note’s title, and the rest becomes its text. Like any note, it opens in the side panel, with room for as much as you want to write. See Notes.
- On a note, Turn into sticky note does the opposite. The title comes first, then the text as plain lines. Everything written is kept.
⌘ZCtrl+Z turns it back, with everything it had.
A sticky has no pin. If you turn a pinned note into a sticky, it leaves Pinned in the sidebar. Bloomingo says “Unpinned. A sticky note has no pin.” with Undo, which brings back the note and its pin.
Sticky notes on the braindump
Section titled “Sticky notes on the braindump”On the braindump, a sticky note is a thought, as a note is. Search finds it by its words. Give it a day or a place as you would any other thought.
Moving, copying and removing a sticky work as for anything else. See Selecting and moving.
